Sokoto ADC Threatens Legal Action Over Leadership Dispute

The Sokoto State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is escalating its internal crisis by rejecting the appointment of Aliyu Rabah as chairman of the membership mobilization and revitalization committee. State chairman Umar Faruk described the appointment as imposed and made without consulting the recognized state executive, which he claims undermines internal democracy and poses a direct threat to unity within the party.

The tensions have intensified following recent defections and leadership disputes, particularly after the controversial appointment of Maigwandu, a former commissioner for local government and chieftaincy affairs, as chairman of the committee. Faruk cautioned members against collecting membership cards not issued by the recognized state leadership, warning that such cards would be invalid.

Yusuf Alkali, the state secretary, disclosed plans to approach the court to challenge the leadership claims of former chairman Bello Ishyaku. The ADC leadership emphasizes adherence to proper registration and due process in political engagements.
