Ogun State Introduces New Building Codes for Urban Planning

Ogun State has adopted five new building codes to improve urban planning and promote safe construction practices. The announcement was made by the Ogun State Governor on Monday during a public presentation in Abeokuta.

The new regulations include the Ogun State Plan Development Permit Regulation 2025, Ogun State Slum Regeneration Regulation 2025, Ogun State Building Product Management Regulation 2025, Ogun State Outdoor Physical Furniture Regulation 2025, and Ogun State Layout Land Subdivision Regulation 2025. These codes are the first of their kind in Nigeria and aim to ensure an orderly and safe environment while addressing the challenges posed by rapid urbanization.

Tunji Odunlami emphasized the importance of compliance from stakeholders in the built environment, including landowners, developers, contractors, and artisans. The state government will enforce strict adherence to these regulations and take decisive action against violations, particularly concerning illegal structures and road setbacks.

The initiative also includes the introduction of an e-plan for six pilot zones, facilitating online applications for development permits.
