Ogun State Demolishes Shanties to Enhance Road Safety

The Ogun State government has undertaken the demolition of makeshift structures around the Sango tollgate as part of efforts to curb recurrent road accidents and enhance public safety along the Ogun-Lagos border corridor. This enforcement action, led by Dr.

Kafayat Lawal, the Permanent Secretary of the Ogun State Ministry of Environment, targets illegal roadside stalls and temporary structures that pose safety risks. The government issued multiple warnings to traders to vacate the area, emphasizing that the presence of roadside traders around the tollgate bridge increases the danger to both traders and commuters, particularly during traffic incidents.

The demolition follows due process, and alternative trading locations have been provided for affected traders. The Ogun State government has stated that it will not tolerate activities that endanger lives or obstruct traffic flow, and it will continue to enforce compliance with urban planning regulations to promote orderly development.
