Ogun APC Chieftain Defends Adeola Against Obasanjo's Claims

Akeem Akilo, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State, has publicly criticized Iyabo Obasanjo, a former senator representing Ogun Central, for her remarks describing Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, as an "opportunist." Akilo characterized Obasanjo's comments, made during a radio interview, as misplaced and lacking substance, arguing that they reflect a hollow political stance. He highlighted Adeola's consistent growth and electoral success, noting that he has served two terms in the Lagos State House of Assembly and as a senator for Lagos West and Ogun West.

Akilo asserted that Adeola's political career demonstrates sustained voter confidence and strategic expansion, rather than opportunism. He also pointed out that Ogun is not foreign territory for Adeola, who has deep connections to the region.

Akilo questioned Obasanjo's motivations, suggesting that her comments were an attempt to regain relevance in a changing political landscape, especially as she recently registered as a member of the APC and declared her intent to contest the 2027 governorship election in Ogun State.
