Banjoko Denies Stepping Down for Amosun in APC Primaries

Muraina Banjoko, an aspirant for the Ogun Central senatorial district seat under the APC, has firmly denied allegations that he has stepped down in favor of former governor Ibikunle Amosun ahead of the party's primaries. Banjoko described these claims as false and misleading, asserting that his entry into the race was not merely to boost the number of aspirants.

He explained that there was an invitation for a stakeholders' meeting in Abeokuta on April 23, 2026, to discuss the possibility of adopting a consensus candidate. Despite reports suggesting that Amosun had listed Banjoko among three aspirants who agreed to step down, Banjoko rejected this assertion, stating that no official decision has been made by the party leadership regarding consensus candidates.

He urged supporters to remain calm and emphasized the need for extensive consultation before any decisions are made, reaffirming his loyalty to the APC and adherence to its guidelines for candidate selection.
