Ogun Lawmaker Calls for Fair Land Allocation in Constituencies

Hon. Isiaka Ibrahim, a member of the House of Representatives representing Ife Ewekoro, has expressed alarm over the imbalance in land allocation to federal constituencies in Ogun State.

He called on the National Boundary Commission to conduct a statutory land demarcation to determine the state’s population accurately. Ibrahim highlighted that the current allocation is unfair and places undue pressure on the state’s infrastructure, making development burdensome.

He noted that the situation has led to complaints about the National Boundary Commission's demographic assessments, particularly when comparing Ogun State to Lagos State, which has a significantly larger population and fewer local governments. Ibrahim emphasized the need for equitable distribution of resources to ensure that all constituencies enjoy the dividends of democracy without undermining their performance.

He suggested that creating more local governments and federal constituencies could alleviate pressure and improve the distribution of democratic benefits across the country.
