Ogun Police Command Enhances GBV Response with Training

The Ogun State Police Command has improved its response to gender-based violence (GBV) by conducting a two-day capacity-building training on post-violence care and survivor-centered approaches for police officers. This training was organized by the Ogun State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development in collaboration with the APIN Public Health Initiative.
The workshop aimed to equip officers with the necessary knowledge and skills to handle GBV cases while safeguarding survivors’ rights and dignity. The training included sessions on the various forms of GBV, relevant laws, evidence gathering, and procedures for responding to incidents.
Participants were trained on protecting survivors' privacy and dignity, appropriate interviewing techniques, and effective referral systems to Sexual Assault Referral Centres (SARCs) and healthcare facilities. The second day focused on practical post-violence care, including medical treatment and psychological support, with particular emphasis on time-sensitive medical care following sexual violence.
The training also reviewed the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act 2015.
