Ogun Shuts Down ARAP Limited Over Silicosis Allegations

The Ogun State Government has closed African Refractories Allied Products Limited (ARAP) in Ogijo after a former employee, Bartholomew Aniema, alleged that he contracted silicosis due to prolonged exposure to dust from crushed quartz stone at the facility. The closure follows a viral video in which Aniema discussed his health issues, including a diagnosis of tuberculosis and claims of several colleagues suffering from similar conditions.

Cynthia, Aniema's sister, accused the company of neglecting workers' health and failing to provide support for employees who fell ill. The Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency (OGEPA) is conducting an investigation into the allegations, which have raised public concern regarding workplace safety standards.

The company will remain closed pending the investigation's outcome, as the Ogun State Government emphasizes its commitment to maintaining health and safety standards in the state.
