Ogun Factories Shut for Violating Safety Standards

The Nigerian government ordered the immediate closure of three factories in Ogijo, Ogun State, for violating occupational safety and health standards. The companies affected include African Refractories Allied Products Limited, African Non Ferrous Industries Limited, and Metalworld Recycling Limited.

Minister of State for Labor and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, conducted inspections alongside officials from the Ministry's Occupational Safety and Health Department. The action followed the companies' failure to comply with earlier safety directives, raising concerns over worker deaths linked to hazardous substance exposure.

Onyejeocha noted that despite warnings, the companies continued operations, endangering lives. She highlighted unacceptable working conditions, including exposure to harmful substances without adequate protective equipment.

The Minister warned that the government would not tolerate negligence and that companies operating outside approved safety standards would face sanctions. She emphasized the need for regulatory compliance and the importance of workplace safety, stating that appropriate actions would be taken against violations to protect workers.
