Ogun Shuts Ijebu Imushin Market Over Sanitation Issues

The Ogun State Waste Management Authority announced the closure of Ijebu Imushin Market in Ijebu East Local Government Area due to inadequate sanitation practices. This decision, made during a visit on Tuesday by Mr.

Farook Akintund, a special adviser to Governor Ogwama, followed repeated warnings to market traders to maintain a clean environment. Akintund noted that traders failed to engage private sector participation for proper waste evacuation and instead continued to dump refuse indiscriminately around the market.

Despite previous measures, including the provision of roll-off bins for waste disposal, traders ignored these provisions, endangering public health and environmental safety. Akintund warned that the state government would not allow a few individuals to jeopardize the health of residents with filthy conditions.

He urged traders to clean the market and adopt proper waste disposal practices, stating that failure to comply would result in prolonged closure. The market will remain shut until necessary sanitation measures are fully implemented.
