Ogun Student Wins National Essay Contest on Education

Sharon Iwala, a 15-year-old SS2 student at Majesty Height Model College in Ogun State, emerged as the overall winner of the 11th national essay competition organized by the Ajok Aishat Afolabi Foundation. The competition, held on May 26, 2026, at the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, featured 10 finalists selected from 200 entries nationwide.

The theme was "Building Character versus Causing Trauma: Strategies to Effect Discipline in Schools." Iwala's victory was announced after she defeated Anuoluwapo Mudasir from Vetland Senior Grammar School and Oluwatoyosi Adeley from Murtala Muhammed Airport Secondary School, who were the first and second runners-up, respectively. Iwala received a laptop as a prize, while her school was awarded a projector.

The foundation, established in 2008, aims to alleviate poverty and support education, impacting over 100,000 Nigerians. The essay competition encourages students to engage meaningfully with national issues affecting children and education.
