Ogun Students Demand 26% Education Budget from Next Governor

On Wednesday, students in Ogun State, organized by the Students’ Wing of the Yayi Progressive Movement, called for the next governor to allocate 26% of the state’s annual budget to education, adhering to UNESCO benchmarks. This demand was made during a solidarity rally for Senator Solomon Adeola, known as Yayi, in Abeokuta.

Oladotun Opaleye, the Coordinator of the Students’ Wing, emphasized the need for improved educational funding and pledged to engage Adeola on this issue if he is elected. Opaleye noted that over 10,000 students participated in the rally to appreciate Adeola's contributions to education, including the recent distribution of bursaries and scholarships to 5,312 students without preconditions.

He also urged Adeola to prioritize infrastructure rehabilitation in tertiary institutions across Ogun State. The student leader expressed confidence in mobilizing 250,000 votes for Adeola in the 2027 governorship election.
