Ogun Traders Suffer Losses as Mowe/Ofada Market Demolished

Traders at Mowe/Ofada Market in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area, Ogun State, faced significant losses after the Ogun State Government demolished the market early on Friday at 2 AM without prior notice. Mr.

Kabira Ajiboy, a trader, lamented that the demolition resulted in the destruction of goods valued at around ₦500 million. Ajiboy criticized the government for not informing traders of the demolition plans, despite having paid rent to the local government.

She noted that the demolition was carried out without consideration for the traders' livelihoods, many of whom rely on their businesses for survival. Ajiboy appealed for intervention from Governor Dapo Abiodun to provide alternative locations for the affected traders to continue their businesses.

Efforts to reach Tunji Odunlami, the state commissioner for urban planning, for comments were unsuccessful as calls went unanswered, and messages sent via WhatsApp received no response by the time of the report.
