Dealers Urge Wike to Restore Demolished Market Toilet

The leadership of Section C of the Abuja International Building Materials Market in Dei Dei has made an appeal to Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), concerning the illegal demolition of the market's public toilet. Chief Kenneth Okoye, the Chairman of the section, reported that a trader demolished the toilet facility and began constructing six shops on the site, which has left the market without any sanitary facilities.

Okoye described this action as a violation of market regulations and a disregard for public infrastructure, noting that the market leadership was not informed or consulted prior to the demolition. He emphasized the importance of sanitary facilities in markets to prevent open defecation and reduce the risk of waterborne diseases, which could undermine public health efforts.

Okoye commended Wike for ongoing infrastructural developments in the FCT and urged him to direct relevant agencies to restore the demolished toilet and enforce market regulations to prevent future incidents.
