Ogun Transportation Commissioner Urges Urgent Action on Urban Mobility in Nigeria

Gbenga Dairo, the Chairman of the Ogun State Commission on Transport, spearheaded a call for urgent action on urban mobility during a stakeholder forum organized by the Nigeria Transport Commission Forum (NTCF) in Abuja. Dairo emphasized the pressing need for action as Nigeria's urban population is projected to double to 264 million by 2050, putting immense pressure on transportation systems.

The forum, attended by state commissioners, federal officials, and development partners including the World Bank, focused on the importance of clear financing, long-term maintenance coordination, and inclusive infrastructure development to support the country's urban transport system. Dairo instructed states to submit shovel-ready projects for investment as part of the Nigeria Public Transport Program (NPTP) to enhance existing transport infrastructure.

The forum also engaged in surveys and discussions to shape the next phase of the Nation Urban Mobility Program (NUMP), with a focus on sustainable infrastructure development.
