Ogunsanya Wins Nigeria's First Medal at Mongolia Wrestling

Christianah Ogunsanya won Nigeria's first medal at the World Wrestling Ranking Series held in Mongolia, claiming a bronze in the women's competition on Friday. Ogunsanya secured her place on the podium by defeating Mongolia's Bayanmunkh with a score of 6-6, determined by technical criteria.

This achievement marks a significant milestone for Team Nigeria, as it is the country's first medal in this tournament. Ogunsanya, a multiple-time African champion, began her campaign impressively with a 10-0 victory over Mongolia's Tsovoo Gankhuyag.

However, Nigeria narrowly missed another medal when Commonwealth champion Merci Genesi lost 7-2 to Turkey's Evin Demirhan in the bronze medal contest. Puriti Akuh, the coach of Nigeria's women’s wrestling team, praised Ogunsanya's effort and expressed gratitude to God for the medal, emphasizing that it demonstrates Nigeria's competitiveness on the world stage.

Akuh also thanked Bashir Adeniyi, the president of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation, for facilitating the team's participation in the event.
