U.S.-Iran Peace Talks Could Lower Oil Prices

Oil prices are anticipated to drop as the United States and Iran engage in peace talks that may result in an agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Currently, Brent crude oil prices hover around $103 to $105.

A senior U.S. official indicated that a principal deal is being negotiated to wind down the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, contingent upon Iran agreeing to limit its uranium enrichment. Although the Iranian leadership has not publicly commented on the potential agreement, discussions involve various Middle Eastern countries.

President Donald Trump disclosed on his Truth Social media platform that the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, which accounts for 20% of global oil transit, is part of the proposed agreement. The military tensions in the region have previously led to spikes in oil prices.

The U.S. will maintain its blockade of Iranian ports until a final agreement is reached.
