FG Appeals Dawes Island License Revocation Ruling

The Federal Government of Nigeria is appealing a ruling from the Lagos Federal High Court concerning the revocation of the Dawes Island margin field license originally awarded to EurAfr Energy in 2003. The appeal, filed on January 29, 2026, follows EurAfr Energy's challenge against the non-renewal of its license and demands for reinstatement of its assets.

The Minister of Petroleum Resources and the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources emphasized that the government's actions are intended to reinforce regulatory discipline and ensure compliance within the oil and gas sector. The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has initiated the appeal process, highlighting the importance of maintaining commercial discipline and accountability in asset management.

The Dawes Island field has not been commercially productive for nearly 17 years, leading to concerns over revenue loss and inefficient capital allocation.
