Okorocha Challenges Uzodimma's Senate Ambition Legally

The political rivalry between former Imo State governor Rochas Okorocha and current governor Hope Uzodimma has escalated into a legal battle over the Imo West Senatorial District seat. Okorocha has filed a suit in the Federal High Court in Abuja, asserting that Uzodimma's governorship extends until midnight on January 14, 2028, following his oath of office for a second term on January 15, 2024.

Okorocha argues that since Uzodimma's tenure will overlap with the inauguration of the new National Assembly in 2027, his candidacy for the Senate is unconstitutional. The former governor claims that Uzodimma has already sought the APC ticket for Imo West, which adds complexity to the situation.
