Okowa Praises Team Nigeria at African Athletics Championships

Okowa, the president of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), commended Team Nigeria for their performance at the 24th African Senior Athletics Championships held in Accra, Ghana. The team finished in fourth place overall on the medal table.

Tobi Amusan, a world record holder, won gold in the women's 100m hurdles, while the women's 4x100m, 4x400m, and mixed 4x400m relay teams also secured gold medals. Okowa acknowledged the efforts of Rosemary Chukwuma, a double silver medalist in the women's 100m and 200m, and praised Chidera Ezeakor for winning a bronze medal in the men's 100m.

He recognized the outstanding performances of athletes such as Olatoy Oyesad, Divin Oladipupo, Obiageri Amaechi, Adam Kure, Kparika Victoria Effiom, and young sprinters Rosemary Nwankwo and Miracl Ezechukwu. Okowa expressed pride in the athletes' dedication and the support from the Nigerian sports commission, emphasizing the need for continued investment in grassroots athletic development.
