Edo Governor Okpebholo Forms Committee for Pensioners

On Friday, Governor Senator Mondai Okpebholo of Edo State announced the formation of a committee to address complaints from pensioners. This initiative was revealed during a courtesy visit from the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners and the Nigeria Labour Congress at the Government House in Benin.

The committee, headed by Anthony Okungbowa, will include members such as Emmanuel Okoebor and the permanent secretary of the pension bureau. Governor Okpebholo reaffirmed his administration's commitment to ensuring timely pension payments and improving the overall welfare of retirees, emphasizing their dignity and respect after years of service.

The governor also addressed concerns regarding outstanding pension payments and reiterated the state's resolve to prioritize pensioners' welfare. Sir Samuel Okhuelegb, the state chairman of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, commended the governor for recent improvements, including regular pension payments and the introduction of a 13th-month bonus, while also highlighting ongoing challenges such as unpaid gratuities.
