Okpebholo Urges New Edo Speaker to Foster Unity

On August 17, 2026, Prince Yekini Oisayemoje Idaiye was elected as the new Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly after the resignation of Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku.

During a meeting at the Government House in Benin City, Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, emphasized the importance of unity, transparency, humility, and teamwork in Idaiye's new role. He cautioned that failing to include all lawmakers could lead to divisions within the Assembly.

Okpebholo reminded the new Speaker of the responsibilities that come with the position and urged the Assembly leadership to foster dialogue and resolve internal disagreements without resorting to social media. He highlighted the temporary nature of political offices and stressed the need for humility and a strong sense of responsibility in serving the public.
