Wole Olanipekun Calls for Action Against Cyberbullying at University of Lagos Convocation

Wole Olanipekun, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the University of Lagos, emphasized the need for the Nigerian government to fully enforce the provisions of the 2024 Cybercrime Act to address cyberbullying. Speaking at the university's 56th convocation ceremony, Olanipekun highlighted the increasing vulnerability of Nigerians to online harassment and threats on social media platforms.

He stressed the importance of educating Nigerians, especially in cybercrime and digital protection, to safeguard against abuses in the digital space. Olanipekun also referenced a recent fine imposed on a UK blogger as an example of regulatory measures in the social media space.

Additionally, he commended the seamless collaboration between the university's leadership and the Governing Council over the past 18 months to enhance administrative processes. Olanipekun urged graduates to be worthy ambassadors of the University of Lagos and emphasized the significance of education in preparing individuals for the challenges of the outside world.
