TikTok Creator Denies Filming Oloolu Masquerade

Wasilat, a female TikTok content creator, has publicly denied allegations that she filmed the sacred Oloolu masquerade during the annual Oloolu Masquerade Festival in Ibadan, Oyo State. In an interview on Lagelu FM’s Ibi Aye N Lo programme hosted by Adesoye Omotosho, she stated that she did not capture the revered figure and dismissed rumors of her death.

Wasilat explained that on the day of the incident, last Thursday, she was at her shop when she mistakenly filmed Alawo Oloolu, a figure associated with the Oloolu tradition, instead of the actual masquerade. Chief Adeola Oloko, spokesperson for the Olubadan of Ibadanland, confirmed that Wasilat did not record the Oloolu masquerade but rather mistook Alawo for it.

Following the posting of the footage, Wasilat reportedly experienced health issues, prompting her family to seek help from traditional custodians. Oloko emphasized that women are traditionally not supposed to see Oloolu, which Wasilat did out of curiosity.
