Masquerade Arrested for Alleged Murder in Ibadan

On July 5, 2026, the Oyo State Police Command reported the arrest of a masquerade identified as Asolek in connection with the alleged murder of 24-year-old Sefiu Kehinde in Ibadan. According to the police public relations officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, the incident occurred around 4:00 PM when Kehinde was attacked with an axe in the Labiran area of Ibadan.

Following a distress call from Kehinde's elder sister, police officers from the Mapo Division swiftly mobilized to the scene, where they found Kehinde with severe injuries. He was immediately evacuated to the hospital but was unfortunately confirmed dead upon arrival.

The police documented the scene and took photographs of the deceased as part of the investigation. Asolek was arrested, while four other suspects involved in the alleged crime remain at large.

The Commissioner of Police for Oyo State, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbemiga, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.
