Sowore Condemns Cleansing of TikToker in Oloolu Festival

Omoyele Sowore, the African Action Congress presidential candidate, condemned the alleged traditional cleansing of Wasilat, a female TikTok content creator, who was taken to the Oloolu masquerade compound in Ibadan after reportedly filming a procession related to the annual Oloolu Masquerade Festival. In a Facebook post, Sowore described the incident as an abuse of human dignity and argued that any cultural practice that oppresses or discriminates should be discarded.

Wasilat denied claims that she filmed the sacred Oloolu masquerade and insisted she was not dead, countering widespread social media rumors. During an interview on Lagelu FM, she explained that she had not recorded the masquerade but had filmed an Amotekun vehicle passing by her shop.

The spokesperson for the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Chief Adeola Oloko, confirmed that Wasilat did not capture the sacred masquerade itself but mistakenly recorded Alawo Oloolu.
