Oloruntoba: Why It’s Important to Equip Youth for Climate-smart Innovation

Bankole Oloruntoba, the Chief Executive of Nigeria Climate Innovation Centre (NCIC), emphasized the importance of equipping youth for climate-smart innovation in an interview with Funmi Ogundare. The organization partnered with the Oando Foundation and researchers to launch the Green Youth Upskilling Programme, aiming to build the technical capacity of young people to address climate change and improve the economy.

Oloruntoba highlighted NCIC's evolution from a mere concept to a fully operational center, focusing on establishing partnerships with academia, businesses, government, and the finance sector. The NCIC successfully secured funding from various sources, including Shell Impact Investment and the federal government, to support renewable energy ventures and build a green economy ecosystem in Nigeria.

The collaboration with the Oando Foundation on the Green Youth Upskilling Programme exemplifies the commitment to empowering Nigerian youth and fostering innovation in the climate space.
