This statement comes after reports suggested his defection. Meanwhile, the Labour Party expressed disappointment over Akpata's alleged hasty defection, emphasizing the need for a united opposition against the APC in the 2027 elections.

The party's interim National Publicity Secretary, Tony Akeni, highlighted the importance of maintaining a cohesive political strategy, citing the example of former presidential candidate Peter Obi's engagement with opposition parties without leaving the LP.
