Ondo State Bans Okada Operations, Amotekun Arrests 70 Suspects

The Ondo State government has announced a ban on the operations of commercial motorcycles, commonly referred to as okadas, across 18 local government areas, effective March 11, 2026. This prohibition restricts motorcycle use from 7 PM to 6 AM.

Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, the head of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, known as Amotekun, disclosed this directive at the agency's headquarters in Akure. The ban aims to enhance public safety and maintain order in the state.

Only security personnel and individuals providing essential services are exempt from this restriction. Motorcycle operators must register and obtain certification from Amotekun to operate legally.

Additionally, the government has banned cart pushers in major towns to improve traffic management and public safety. In a related security effort, Amotekun announced the arrest of 70 suspects involved in various criminal activities, including 39 arrests related to kidnapping and 11 for human trafficking.
