Ondo Police Ban Overnight Worship for Security Reasons

The Ondo State Police Command, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police Adebowale Lawal, has issued a ban on overnight worship and late-night religious activities across the state. This decision was communicated during a press briefing in Akure, where Lawal emphasized the need for religious leaders, both Muslim and Christian, to moderate their night programs.

The police chief stated that this measure aims to improve security and reduce the risk of criminal exploitation during nighttime gatherings. He highlighted a recent incident involving the abduction of members from the Celestial Church of Christ in Uso, Owo, as a significant concern.

Lawal urged religious leaders to inform the police about their programs in advance to facilitate risk assessments and ensure safety. He also noted that security is a collective responsibility involving police, military, traditional rulers, and local government authorities.
