Ondo State Distributes Relief to Flood Victims in Ilaje

On Tuesday, the Ondo State Government distributed relief materials to residents of riverine communities affected by recent flooding in Ilaje Local Government Area. The flooding, caused by heavy rainfall, resulted in significant property damage.

Relief items included foodstuffs, mattresses, and blankets to aid recovery. Dr Olayide Adelami, the Ondo State Deputy Governor and Chairman of the Ondo State Emergency Management Agency, stated that the initiative aimed to alleviate the disaster's impact on families.

Represented by Mr Richard Aina, the agency's Secretary, Adelami urged residents of flood-prone areas to remain vigilant and follow safety advisories. He reaffirmed the administration's commitment to enhancing emergency response mechanisms.

Mr Olanrewaju Kazeem, Head of Operations at the National Emergency Management Agency, noted that the distribution was part of efforts to educate residents on disaster prevention and preparedness. Maurice Oripenaye, the LGA Chairman, reported that nearly 10,000 residents had registered for assistance, highlighting the flooding's severe impact, which even submerged the local government secretariat for almost a week.
