Ondo Governor Aiyedatiwa Pays N2.6bn Gratuities to Retirees

Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa commenced the payment of N2.6 billion in gratuities to retirees, specifically for local government and primary school workers who exited service in 2015. The ceremony to flag off this payment exercise took place on Wednesday in Akure, the state capital.

Governor Aiyedatiwa emphasized the administration's unwavering commitment to the welfare of senior citizens in the state. The total sum of N2,614,266,954.88 will be paid directly into the accounts of the beneficiaries.

This payment addresses outstanding gratuities for retirees from the years 2012, 2013, and 2014. Aiyedatiwa attributed the release of funds to a deliberate plan and prudent financial management, prioritizing the welfare of the people.

He urged beneficiaries to judiciously use the money, particularly in health investments. Mr. Johnson Osunyemi, the state chairman of the Nigeria Union of Pension, expressed appreciation for the governor's efforts, noting that pensioners in the state continue to receive monthly pensions promptly under the current administration.
