Ondo Lawmaker Proposes Rent Control Bill Amid Surging Housing Costs

Olajide Oguntodu, a lawmaker representing Akure South Constituency 1 in the Ondo State House of Assembly, expressed concerns over the increasing cost of housing rent in Akure, describing the situation as inhuman and unfair, especially for families, young people, and low-income earners. He vowed to sponsor a bill to establish a legal framework for regulating house rent and property sales in the state, with the aim of ensuring fair and transparent practices in the housing sector.

Oguntodu emphasized the need to protect both tenants and property owners through appropriate regulatory measures. The move comes amidst protests by Akure youths against what they perceive as exorbitant and unchecked actions by the state government in property transactions.
