Eleven Dead in Lagos-Abeokuta Bridge Accident

On a tragic day, eleven individuals lost their lives when a gold Toyota vehicle, registered number GGE722KJ, plunged off the Eruku Bridge along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway in Ogun State. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed that the vehicle, carrying ten adult males and one adult female, somersaulted and fell off the bridge, trapping the occupants inside as the doors locked upon impact.

The FRSC's statement indicated that the rescue operation unit was immediately deployed to the scene to assist local community members in recovering the bodies and dismantling the wreckage. The victims were subsequently taken to a state specialist hospital morgue in Ifo.

Preliminary investigations by the FRSC suggested that vehicle overload and possible driver influence might have contributed to the crash. Oludar Ogunjobi, the Ogun State sector command representative, urged motorists using the Lagos-Abeokuta route to exercise extreme caution, especially during night journeys, and expressed condolences to the families of the victims.
