Boat Capsizes in Jigawa, One Dead, Many Missing

A tragic incident occurred in Jigawa State when a boat, reportedly carrying around 40 passengers, mostly women and children, capsized while crossing a waterway. The Jigawa State Police Command confirmed the incident through a statement issued by Public Relations Officer Lawan Adam.

As of now, one body has been recovered, and search and rescue teams are actively working to locate the remaining missing passengers. Local residents have gathered along the riverbank, anxiously awaiting news.

The Ringim Emir Council has also released a statement acknowledging the loss of life and is working to ascertain the exact number of casualties. The council has appealed for calm and support for the emergency response efforts.

The police assured residents that all available resources are being deployed for the rescue operations. Authorities have emphasized the need for stricter enforcement of safety measures, such as the use of life jackets and regular boat inspections, especially during the rainy season when waterways become dangerous.
