OneGrid Energies Named AMTY Startup Company of the Year

OneGrid Energies, a clean energy social enterprise based in Onitsha, Anambra State, has been awarded the title of AMTY Startup Company of the Year. Founded in 2022, the company has distinguished itself by developing practical interventions to address energy poverty and create economic opportunities in underserved communities.

Its flagship initiative, OnePlastic, transforms discarded plastic bottles into lithium-ion batteries for affordable solar lanterns, benefiting communities with limited access to electricity. The project operates solar charging stations managed by rural women and has impacted 12,000 people across rural Anambra State, distributing 2,000 solar lanterns and recycling 10,000 plastic bottles, thereby creating 40 green jobs.

Additionally, OneGrid Energies implements solar power projects in healthcare facilities, improving access to reliable electricity for medical services and benefiting 7,000 people. The company has received recognition in various national and international innovation competitions, further highlighting its significant contributions to sustainable development and climate action in Nigeria.
