Edo State Grants 7MW Mini-Grid License to Izenergi

The Edo State government has granted a 7 megawatt (MW) mini-grid electricity license to indigenous investor Izenergi Limited as part of its efforts to enhance electricity access and promote renewable energy initiatives. The license was presented by Hon.

Paul Usenbo during a ceremony in Benin City. Izenergi Limited, which has been operating in Edo State for three years, aims to address significant electricity supply gaps by deploying solar power mini-grid systems to provide affordable electricity to homes, hotels, and businesses.

The project is expected to become operational within four to five months, with the first phase delivering 1 MW of electricity sufficient for 500 to 1,000 homes. Despite challenges such as land acquisition and infrastructure protection, the host community has expressed support for the initiative.

The Edo State government is committed to ensuring reliable and affordable electricity supply, with plans to develop independent power projects totaling 100 MW across the state's three senatorial districts.
