Odimegwu Onwumere Shines at AIPS Sport Media Awards

Odimegwu Onwumere earned notable recognition at the 2026 AIPS Sport Media Awards, announced on May 16, 2026, by the Association Internationale de la Presse Sportive. He was included in the global longlist, ranking among the top 35 sports journalists worldwide, and was distinguished as one of the top 10 in Africa for his work in the "Best Colour Piece" category.

The awards ceremony took place on April 10, 2025, at the Olympic Museum in Lausanne, Switzerland, attracting 1,987 entries from around the globe, with 703 advancing to the second round. Onwumere's contributions were commended in two separate letters from the award committee, which recognized his efforts in setting new standards of quality in sports journalism.

Additionally, on May 7, 2026, he secured second place in the West Africa category at the Merck Foundation Media Recognition Award during a virtual ceremony hosted in Dubai, where Rasha Kelej reported on social health issues across West Africa.
