OPay Takes Legal Action Over False Withdrawal Claims

OPay Digital Services Limited has taken legal action against three social media users for disseminating false information regarding the company's operations. The legal notices, signed by OPay's Chief Legal Counsel, Akinfolabi Moses Rokosu, were issued on August 31 and September 1, 2026.

The individuals targeted include Adamu Garba, who allegedly claimed on August 30 that OPay would take a "long indefinite break" and advised customers to withdraw their funds. OPay accused Garba of promoting an alternative wallet, Crowwe Wallet, alongside this misinformation.

The company described the publication as false, malicious, unlawful, libellous, and defamatory, demanding its removal and a retraction by September 1, 2026. Similar notices were sent to TikTok account @viralgrabtvng and user Cute Hafserh, who also spread the false claim.

OPay warned that it would pursue all legal remedies if the misinformation continued and emphasized that it remains operational and licensed.
