OPay Threatens Legal Action Over Shutdown Rumor

OPay, a digital payment platform, has issued a formal warning to a 𝕏 user named Cute Hafserh (@Haifah_Er_Abba) after the user claimed that the company would shut down its operations on September 1, 2026. Akinfolabi Moses Rokosu, OPay's Chief Legal Counsel, accused Hafserh of disseminating false and misleading information that has negatively impacted the company.

OPay demanded the immediate removal of the post and warned that it was prepared to pursue legal action if the misinformation continued. This warning followed OPay's earlier clarification that it had no intention of suspending operations on the specified date, urging customers to disregard the unverified claims.

OPay emphasized that it takes the circulation of false information seriously and issued a formal warning against further dissemination of such claims.
