Experts Warn of Rise in Fake Government Agencies in Nigeria

Experts have raised alarms about the potential rise of fake government agencies in Nigeria, urging the government to enhance oversight and accountability. Y.

Z. Ya’u, Executive Director of the Center for Information Technology and Development, expressed concerns following the discovery of the National Brands Development and Made-in-Nigeria Special Project Office, which the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) identified as unauthorized.

The ICPC Chairman, Dr Musa Adamu Aliyu, stated that George Buchi Nwabueze allegedly promoted this organization. In response, President Bola Tinubu ordered Nwabueze's arrest and suspended three permanent secretaries from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

Murtala Muhammad, Vice-President of the Nigerian Political Science Association, characterized the situation as a governance failure, highlighting weak verification systems and oversight as contributing factors to the emergence of such organizations.
