Taraba Workers Allegedly Required to Submit PVCs for Salaries

A political controversy has arisen in Taraba State over allegations that civil servants and teachers were ordered to submit photocopies of their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to receive their salaries. This claim has been met with strong condemnation from Senator Emmanuel Bwacha's camp, which described the alleged directive as coercive and unconstitutional.

The controversy reportedly began after social media reports claimed that Mrs. Christiana Binga, Chairperson of the Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board (TSUBEB), instructed teachers to provide their PVCs as a condition for salary payment.

Bwacha's media aide, J.Y. Nafinji, characterized the directive as a "panic measure" aimed at manipulating the electoral process and called for an investigation by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies.

In response, TSUBEB dismissed the allegations as false and misleading, asserting that Mrs. Binga never made such an instruction but encouraged teachers to obtain their PVCs for electoral participation.
