OPWS Disrupts Kidnappers' Roadblock, Arrests Two in Benue

On August 19, 2026, troops from the Joint Task Force Operation WHIRL STROKE (OPWS) conducted operations in Benue State, disrupting an alleged kidnappers' roadblock. Acting on intelligence regarding criminal activities along the Jortar–Atume axis and in Logo Local Government Area, the troops targeted a suspected bandit kingpin and his associates.
During the operation, a firefight ensued, resulting in the neutralization of one suspected bandit. The remaining criminals fled, leaving behind a motorcycle.
In a separate operation in Logo Local Government Area, troops arrested two suspected kidnappers, Terhile Iyo, 44, and Vershima Emmanuel, 32, at Gou Village. The suspects allegedly attempted to kidnap Mrs Balame Nyikwagh.
Authorities recovered a locally made pistol, a cartridge, five Tecno torchlight phones, a MoniePoint ATM card, an identity card, multiple SIM cards, and charms from the suspects. Both individuals are in military custody for further investigation as OPWS continues its efforts against kidnapping and criminal activities in the region.
