Oyo State Approves Death Benefits for Slain Teachers

The Oyo State government has approved the immediate payment of death benefits to the families of teachers killed by armed bandits during an abduction incident in Oriire local government in May. Hon. Akeem Ademola Ige, the chairman of the Oyo State Local Government Staff Pension Board, made this announcement while addressing officials from the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies in Ibadan.

He assured that the payment process would be smooth and stress-free for the families of the deceased teachers. Ige highlighted the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde as being pensioner-friendly, noting that it has disbursed N42 billion in gratuities and death benefits to retired and deceased pensioners.

He mentioned an increase in the monthly allocation for the board from N250 million to N3 billion, with over N103 billion paid to retired local government retirees from 2019 to 2026. Additionally, he outlined various pensioner-friendly policies implemented by the Makinde administration, including wage awards and Christmas bonuses.
