Oyo Government Seeks Public Input on School Abduction Inquiry

The Oyo State Government has initiated a call for memoranda from the public to assist the Judicial Commission of Inquiry investigating the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in the Oriire Local Government Area, specifically in the Esinele and Yawota communities. This announcement was made following the release of Mustapha Marwana, a carpenter who had been arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) during the investigation into the abduction and killing of pupils and teachers in the region.

The commission is seeking relevant information regarding the incident, including the security response before, during, and after the attack. Community leaders, residents, civil society organizations, security agencies, and other stakeholders are encouraged to submit memoranda to aid the inquiry.

The government stated that the inquiry aims to address safety concerns for pupils, teachers, and residents in rural communities, particularly those near state borders. The commission will conduct a thorough examination of the circumstances surrounding the abduction and assess the responses of relevant authorities, with the outcome intended to guide policy decisions for enhancing security around schools and communities.
