INEC Urges Neutrality Ahead of Osun Governorship Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has issued a warning to Supervisory Presiding Officers (SPOs) and transport unions regarding partisanship ahead of the Osun State governorship election scheduled for August 15. INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, delivered these directives during engagements in Osogbo as part of a readiness assessment tour.

He stressed the necessity for complete neutrality from transport providers, indicating that vehicles contracted for the election must operate under INEC’s supervision. Amupitan highlighted that logistics must be punctual, with vehicles available before Registration Area Centres (RACs) open at noon on the eve of the election and all election materials arriving at polling units by 7:30 a.m. on election day.

He warned against any political pressure on election officials, urging them to comply strictly with operational manuals. The Osun governorship poll is noted as the final off-cycle election before the 2027 general elections.

Olayioye Adesina, representing the National Union of Road Transport Workers, assured INEC of adequate logistics measures.
