Accord Party Demands EFCC Chairman's Resignation Over Account Freeze

The Accord Party, led by National Chairman Chief Maxwell Mgbudem, has demanded the immediate resignation of the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) due to the freezing of the Osun State Government's bank account. Mgbudem, speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Friday, described the EFCC's actions as unconstitutional and an overreach of its powers, raising concerns about the potential misuse of federal institutions in the upcoming Osun State governorship election scheduled for August 15, 2026.

He expressed a loss of confidence in the EFCC's leadership, citing unprecedented partisanship in the state's political crisis. Mgbudem commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for intervening and ordering the unfreezing of the account, which he deemed a necessary step to reduce political tension.

The Accord Party also urged security agencies and electoral bodies to adhere to their mandates and protect the democratic process, alleging that its members faced violence and intimidation from suspected APC supporters.
