Tinubu Directs EFCC to Unfreeze Osun State Accounts

President Bola Tinubu has ordered the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to take immediate steps to unfreeze the accounts of the Osun State Government. In a personally signed statement released on Thursday, Tinubu expressed discomfort with the timing of the EFCC's action, which was based on a valid court order obtained on August 5, 2026.

He stated that the timing could lead to public speculation about the Federal Government's influence on political events in Osun State, particularly with a governorship election approaching. Tinubu emphasized that while he supports the independence of law enforcement and anti-corruption agencies, actions taken during election periods should not cast doubt on the fairness of Nigeria’s democratic process.

He noted that he was unaware of the EFCC's court order until after it was executed and reiterated his commitment to allowing agencies to operate without political interference.
