Osun APC Blames Oyetola for Election Defeat to Adeleke

The Osun APC Stakeholders Forum addressed an open letter to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on August 18, 2026, attributing the All Progressives Congress' defeat in the August 15 governorship election to former Osun State Governor and current Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola. The Independent National Electoral Commission declared Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party the winner, securing 511,067 votes against APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji's 444,815 votes, resulting in a margin of 66,252 votes.

The forum, led by Coordinator Professor Akin Adeyanju and Secretary Honourable Sola Ajayi, expressed commitment to the APC while highlighting internal issues as a key factor in the loss. They accused Oyetola of favoring his allies in political appointments, which they claimed alienated other party members and weakened support.

The forum alleged that Oyetola had excessive influence over candidate selections for the election, including the governorship and deputy governorship candidates, as well as candidates for senatorial and federal constituencies.
