Osun APC Seeks Withdrawal of Disputed Election Petition

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State is seeking to withdraw a petition filed regarding the August 15 governorship election, which was attributed to the party and its candidate, Bola Oyebamiji. This application, dated September 8, 2026, was submitted to the Election Petition Tribunal in Osogbo.

The APC publicly distanced itself from the petition, asserting that it was neither authorized by the party nor sanctioned by its legal team. Dr Abiodun Layonu, a senior member of the APC's legal team, confirmed that the petition did not originate from them, while campaign spokesperson Remi Omowaye urged the public to disregard it.

However, Mr Seyi Oyagbile, the lawyer who filed the petition, stated he acted on the instructions of Engineer Benjamin Adereti, the APC's deputy governorship candidate, who had signed the document. The tribunal had previously displayed petitions from both the APC and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) challenging the election results.
